*** THE STATE OF CIPHER **

1/16
- Cipher's violent set came to an abrupt, dramatic ending at the Island Park American Legion Hall. Jay had an intense asthma attack during Clockwork but luckily paramedics arrived and he quickly recovered. Otherwise, the show was great aside from a couple of stupid fights. At Odds, Soulsick and Still- life ripped it up. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves (constant dancing and singalongs!) It was a dope turn out for a last minute show (200+). 1/17 - A successfull road trip with no catastrophies and bad cipher luck is rare but it happened. Despite Candiria cancelling, the show at the QE2 in Albany with Cut-throat was packed out (200+). Cut-throat is a great band outta Albany pick up their cd out on Ruffneck records. They're hitting the studio to record their second full-length very soon. Flat out, one of Cipher's best outta state shows ever filled with dancing and singalongs. 1/18 - Unfortunately, Jay had a car accident and killed a huge dog with his car on his way to practice. Oooops.... 1/24 - Moe Cipher, accompanied by Evan I.P and Jermaine Unibomber went to the Superbowl of Hardcore '98 in Washington DC. The show was unbelievable. Anybody on the East Coast had no excuse not to attend this event. Every single band blew it up. Mushmouth, an ill band from PA, started things off. Moe greedily takes credit for starting up their pit. Highlights were Hatebreed, 25 ta Life, VOD, and Farenhieght 451. Murphy's law suprised everyone when they brought a horn section on stage. Earth Crisis headlined. In a word, Epic. Big shows are out of the question for these guys for the next month. Afterward the guys chilled with Chris Dysphoria, Ray-Ray, Rochelle, John RSB, Larry Real Deal, Nature Boy, Bob, and the rest of the PAHC crew at a nearby Best Western. Highlights include Ray-Ray's inebriated antics, Rochelle's forbidden piecrings, and John's cutting social commentary. 1/31 - Wow another successful outta state show with no catastrophies. Cipher played at Club 121 in Brockton Ma. Despite the small turnout the show was mad fun. There was a good vibe throughout the whole night. Incision (local band) played first and sounded really good. Cipher played next. Dysphoria ripped the place apart without their second guitarist (neil was missing and we were all very sad). Buy their new DIY Cd, "Hope without Reason". Burnside (jersey style) blew it up as well with their brutal beatdown tactics. Mad props to League of Pain, who hooked up the show (sorry we missed you - it's a 4 and a half hour drive home.) 2/1 - This was a show not to be missed (although obviously everyone did). Disapionting turnout, only 50 people or so including the 8 bands that ended up playin. Danny Cipher sets the record for having 8 bands in the 3 hour Dr.Shays time limit. The show felt like more like 30 hours .It was so much fun. Still-life played a 2 song set and ripped it up (mad dancing and singalongs). Buy their new Cd coming out at the end of the month, entitled "tactics of agression." Still-life was followed by their BOS brethren, Wrath of Humanity, who played a few songs as well. 4 in tha Chamber came on next and blew it up. They sound a lot better now that Cedrick is cut. Oh and they also added a second guitarist, who seems like a valuable asset to the Chamber. Their debut EP Cd comes out at the end of the month as well. Support these guys!!! CHAMBAZ HEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At Odds came on next and played a great set of all their #1 hits:) They were followed by those brutal Pa. boys Dysphoria. They sound so damn good, totally support these guys. Dysphoria was nice enough to split their set with Burnside from Nj. Pretty impressive stuff. Burnside and With One Intent (played next) both have cds coming out this spring on RPP records(an ill euro-label). With one Intent blew it up. The walls caved in literally (a few people were ejected from then club as a result of their brutality. They also have a split 7inch with Reach the Sky comin out on Back ta Basics. Represent these motherfuckers. Cipher played a short but intense 5 song set that rounded up the memorable evening. Mad props to everyone who helped the night flow on schedule. 2/2 - The Cd was sent to press today (for real this time). Don't quote us but it should be out in mid to late March sometime. 2/13/98 - The show at Deja One was off the hook! Possibly the best Cipher show ever. All the bands ripped it up. 700 kids and sold out. Mad props to everyone who came out and supported us. Like I said before it was off the hook. Nuff said. you had to be there. 2/15/98 - Cipher recorded a brand new track at Out of Your Mind Studios in Wantagh for a new Long Island hardcore comp. Mad props to Ron Sandu for makin it sound so ill. The mixing will go down in late march and the comp (including new tracks from NRSV, Still-life and about 20 others)should be out sometime this Spring. 2/20/98 - CHAMBA'S HEA!!!! 4 In Tha Chamber cd release party. Look for the Cd, out now. Still-life's debut EP CD out now as well. Pick it up. The show went over well. Mostly Long Island kids came out. It was a week turnout (usual for CH) and there was a stupid fight during Cipher's set. Rusted Ego Opened up the show followed by Life Sick Life from Pa., Cipher, Still-life., and 4 In tha Chamber. All in all it was a fun show except that Castle Heights (jackson heights Queens) is haunted. Every time cipher plays a show there, there is a catastrophy. This being the worst. ***J'S $1,500 6 STRING BASS IS MISSING AND/OR STOLEN*** BASS WAS LAST SPOTTED AT THE CLUB WHEN THE BANDS WERE PACKING UP AT THE END OF THE SHOW. PLEASE, IF ANYONE KNOWS THE WHERE ABOUTS OF THE GUITAR PLEASE GET IN TOUCH. WE BEG YOU. J HAS NO MONEY TO GET A NEW BASS. NOT EVEN A SHITY ONE. NO BASS = NO CIPHER PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING.*** 2/22/98 - Sunday matinee at Calico Jack's in Oceanside, Long Island with Soul- Sick, Cipher, Deisel, and Headcount. The show was awsome, despite the weak turnout. Good vibes throughout the whole show. Look out for Headcount featuring Sean Close on the vox. Everything is going well for Deisel and they ripped it up. Everyone was dansing and having fun. Back ta basics is putting out their cd. Deisel has alot of good shows comin up so checkem out. Soul-Sick played a bunch of brand new tunes that sounded really good. They blended in a few of the old favorites for good measure. Cipher played an energetic set filled with dansing and pileons. J borrowed a 4 string from Headcount and played tight eventhough the "Bass Ace" swears he didn't think he could play a four string. Maybe more kids will come out next time. 3/21/98 - Cipher played a show at the Qe2 in Albany with Wrath and Drowning Room. Not a great turnout but decent. All the Albany locals came out The show was really fun and at the end of the Cipher set, TURNBUCKLE jumped on and played a quick song that definately caught everyone's attension. Look out for Turnbuckle...suplexing their way into the scene in 98. Drowning room played a good set but Wrath was the main attraction of the night. They played a real fun personality filled set. Sing alongs and the traditional albany brutal dancing were in effect. Look for their Cd out late spring, early summer. Weather wise, it was a real crappy night (sleet, ice rain, snow). A wack drive well worth it. 3/22/98 - Cool, 20 million bands at Industry on one short notice show. If you could guess, things went wack. It was a good idea though. Some bands didn't even get a chance to play, $3 pizza slices, $10 admission, not advertized well, no bands got paid. Wack security guards and club owners kicked everyone out when no more money was comin in. Real good show. Cipher played a short set late in the show to about 40 people or so. IP was there so it was all good. Other bands that actually played, At Odds, Soulsick, 4 in tha Chamber, R-22, Motive, Tension*, Grudgeholder, Diesel and others. 3/28/98 - " OFF THE HOOK " ....BIOHAZARD, CANDIRIA, MUSHMOUTH, CIPHER, STILL- LIFE. @ Sea Sea's in Moosic pa. Great show with a pretty decent turnout. Cipher drove up with four car-loads of people ( IP CREW in full effect ). Still-life had a show in pa the night before as well so they met us there. The drive up was filled with traffic, but with a clique like this, we played hardcore musical cars. Mad fun was had by all. The show was crazy, about 200 people or so showed up. Still- life blew it up and introduced Pa to Beat-down style. The kids ate it up. The Cipher set was violently out of hand ( big appologies to the kid who's head was cut open from Chris accidently hitting him with his guitar ;#41; . Mushmouth ripped it up Pa style. Candiria... amazing as usual. Biohazard's sound was unbelievably heavy and the new songs sounded real good. Props to all the Pa kids who always represent. 4/5/98 - @ Bogies in Albany. NRSV - ETOWN - CIPHER - NECK. This show was fun despite a disappointing turnout of only about 50 kids. Neck kicked of the show with a bang. Kids were in total shock while unconciously rotting to a slow death. Neck got an awsome response. Cipher came up next and were on top of their game once again, beating on each other as usual. Lots of dancing and singalongs. NRSV played an energetic OLD E inspired set consisting of new and old songs. One of the most entertaining live bands out there. E-Town Concrete completed the night with their signature brand of brutality. Props to all the kids that came out. 4/10/98 - AAAAHHHHH. ROADTRIP FROM HELL. After days of hectic planning for this trip, renting cars, the whole 9 yards; Cipher and Neck journeyed down to Baltimore Maryland. For what??? I don't know, a long car ride, to get there late and have 10 kids there, to come back from getting the eat on and to have 12 kids there (including bands and soundguy), to have bands cancell, amps blow out, getting screwed with money, the show ending after Cipher's set (we played 2nd) and before Neck could even play. i don't even think i wanna write about this anymore. aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhAAAAAA AHHHHHHHHHH Shout outs to Compression and the ten kids that were in attendance. In some weird way it was worth the trip (uh i think, i don't know i'm tired). 5/1/98 - CIPHER CD FINALLY RELEASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/2/98 - CIPHER CAR WRECK. While doing some cipher erands on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in May, Moe, Danny and Cryf got into a huge autowreck. Don't worry the guys are ok. It was a miracle that they didn't get injured. But Cryf's dad's car is deaded as well as Cryf's insurance and liscence. Mad wack!!
5/3/98 - FIRST SHOW WITH THE CD. Screwy Louie's in Kearny NJ. with SHUTDOWN and 4 in tha Chamber!!! CHAMBAZZ HEA!!!!! The show started mad late and the turnout was pretty weak, but it was still fun as all hell. Cryf cut his finger wide open, playing the guitar so violently. Moe got completely winded and was having chest pains throughout the set. It was still dope though 4 in Tha Chamber ripped the place apart. We had to jet early, but word was shutdown was mad ill as well. 5/6/98 - DANNY CIPHER'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/8/98 - Incision, Cipher, Dysphoria Sea Sea's in Moosic pa. This was a good show despite half the bands canceling last minute. Incision from Boston played well and got the crowd going with a Hatebreed cover. Cipher went on next and of coarse had a lot of technical difficulties but were good none the less. Dysphoria played a long set that was off the hook. Nuff said.. pick up their Cd. (Cipher's distro). Oh yeah don't forget to pick up our cd as well!!! Overall the show went well. Maybe 40-50 kids. It's always dope to see our boys from Pa. 5/25/98 - Wow what a friggin road trip. Memorial day fest sea-sea's in moosic pa. Our boys, With one Intent stayed overnight at Moe's and made the trip with us up to Pa. to play the ill HC festival. Mad fun The show was real dope, but the journey, that's a totally different story. D-BOY IP drove us up in DOO-DOO BROWN, along with Melanie, Evan and Jeff At Odds. The tire blew out on a highway well into Pa. To make matters worse, the spare didn't fit??? Don't ask. After a long wait Triple A came to the rescue and sold us this old tire for 10 beans with no garuantee on how long it would last. haha. Well after the show, an hour into the ride home, we decide to get gas. The gas station was a mile away from the exit and at about a half mile, the tire that we just bought, blew out. We were stranded in Bumblefuck NJ. Doo-Doo crawled to the gas station...but guess what...?..it was closed. We were in the middle of no where at 1 in the morning. If we were lucky a car would pass by once every 10 minutes. After a couple hours of waiting...Triple A showed up and all that they could do was offer us a tow for 200 friggin bucks. With 6 of us in one car, they couldn't fit us all in the truck plus it was a rip off. So basically, we camped out in NJ and didn't get home untill 8:30 AM. What a friggin trip from hell. This is the type of stuff that only happens to Cipher. The show was great though. Few hundred kids, a lot of great bands. Real dope. Some of the standouts and highlights included, WITH ONE INTENT, ETOWN CONCRETE, BURNSIDE & STRENGTH FOR A REASON.
